TYPE 1 & 2
Transferring to Tokutei Ginou Type 1 & 2
Tokutei Ginou is a residence status for work in industries facing serious labor shortages, such as caregiving, food service, construction, and agriculture. Type 1 and Type 2 differ in requirements and benefits.
Tokutei Ginou Type 1
- Maximum total period of stay of 5 years
- Spouse and children cannot be sponsored
- The accepting organization must implement a support plan
- Requires transition from Technical Intern Training (Type 2/3), or passing the skills and Japanese language tests for the designated field
Tokutei Ginou Type 2
- No limit on the number of renewals — long-term residence is possible
- Spouse and children may be sponsored if requirements are met
- Requires passing a more advanced skills test for the Type-2-eligible field
- Opens a path toward permanent residency in the future

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.Can I switch from Technical Intern Training to Tokutei Ginou Type 1?
Yes, if you have satisfactorily completed Technical Intern Training Type 2 or 3, or have passed the skills and Japanese language tests required for the designated field. We will confirm the specific requirements for your field.
Q.Can Tokutei Ginou Type 2 holders sponsor family members?
Yes. Unlike Type 1, which does not allow family sponsorship, Type 2 lets you sponsor your spouse and children if requirements are met. We also offer a ¥44,000 campaign price for family members entering Japan for the first time.
Q.Is there a limit on the period of stay for Tokutei Ginou Type 1?
Yes. The total period of stay under Type 1 is capped at 5 years. If you wish to stay longer, we can help you consider switching to Type 2 or another status once you meet the requirements.
Q.Can I reapply if my application was refused once?
Yes. We confirm the reason for the refusal, analyze what was lacking — such as your skills/Japanese test results or the content of the support plan — and support you in reapplying after making improvements. We welcome consultations for cases you handled yourself, or that were previously handled by another office.
